Frequently Asked Questions
What is the $40 fee?
One time per year, if at least one photo of you is licensed, we will deduct $40 from your earnings to cover the cost of fees related to usage of your photos. It is not $40 an image. You do not owe us $40 if your images are not used. You never pay us any money.
What do I need to bring with me?
Before coming in for your shoot, please review the guidelines for what clothing to bring. You must bring a photo ID with your picture, name, and birth date or we will not be able to photograph you. There is a hair and make up artist on set to assist you.
Where are you located and how do I get there?
The address of the studio is 23 East 4 th Street – 6 th Floor (between Lafayette and Bowery). Please click here to obtain directions and locate the nearest subway stations.
What happens with my pictures?
After the photographers have made a selection of photos and they are retouched, they are uploaded to our commercial website at www.citizenstock.com. Once uploaded they are available for viewing and licensing. You will be able to search your model number on the website, which is given to you when you arrive for your shoot. Our clients work for design firms, ad agencies, etc. and search Citizen Stock for images to use on the web or in print for ads, brochures, etc. If an image of you is licensed, you will receive a 10% commission.
We have a sensitive use policy with our clients that prevents them from using images of any Citizen Stock models without additional written permission for such topics. The model(s) and parents/guardians of minors will be notified of a client's interest in licensing images for sensitive use. The images will not be used if the model(s) do not provide written permission.
Will I receive copies of my pictures?
Yes. Everyone who is photographed will be emailed a few complimentary jpegs up to 8 weeks after the photo shoot. These are web-sized images for personal use only (such as sharing with friends and family, and for posting to social media profiles).
If you would like to use one as a headshot or professionally, we charge a small fee per image. You receive a retouched, high resolution file which can be printed large enough for a portfolio. Because you have the digital file, you will be able to make as many copies as you want and email or upload to various types of websites.
I cannot make it to my scheduled photo shoot. Can I reschedule?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible. We require at least 48 hours notice if you have to cancel your shoot. You may reschedule for a future date by reviewing the available times and letting us know when you would like to come in. If you do not show up without contacting us to cancel, you will not be able to come in at a later date.
Are you a talent agency?
No. We are not a talent agency and we cannot provide you with contacts or other work.
This is a photo shoot, not a casting call. When you register and are given a time slot, you are expected to arrive to your photo shoot on time with the required clothing.
I am unavailable on the days you have listed. May I come in on the weekend?
No. We do not shoot on weekends. We shoot one to two days a week. The days of the week that we have our shoots are typically Wednesday and Thursday. You cannot select a day or time that is not listed on the registration form.
Can I bring someone to the studio with me?
Yes. If you would like to bring a friend or family member to the shoot, you may do so but please remember that space is very limited. If someone you know would like to be photographed with you, they must register on the website and be sure to bring the appropriate clothing.
Minors are asked to bring a parent or guardian with them to the photo shoot. If a parent or legal guardian is unable to attend, we require his or her signature on the Model Release Form as well as a copy of a driver's license or other photo ID. If you do not provide us with an ID and signed release, you will not be photographed.
I don't live in the New York City area. Can I still come in for a shoot?
Our studio is in New York City, and we are only photographing people within a 2 hour commute from lower Manhattan. If you are in New York on a trip or vacation, you can register ahead of time and let us know if you'd like to come to the studio for an available shoot.
We do not compensate models for any travel expenses.
Can I come in for a second photo shoot?
Our goal is to photograph as many new people as we can. If you are interested in coming in again, wait approximately one year after your shoot and contact us. Simply registering a second time does not mean you will be added to the calendar again.
If you have additional questions, please email us at info@citizenpeople.com or call us at (212) 995 - 0259.
